How to Disable USB Autoplay in XP

    Windows XP Professional

    • 1). Click "Start," then "Run" in XP Professional.

    • 2). Type "gpedit.msc" and press "Enter" within the XP Professional run window. The Group Policy window will appear.

    • 3). Follow this path in the left pane: "Computer Configuration" -> "Administrative Templates" -> "System."

    • 4). Find the "Turn off Autoplay" item in the right pane and double-click it.

    • 5). Select "Enabled" and choose "Removable drives" from the drop-down box. Press "OK." Autoplay should now be disabled.

    Windows XP Home

    • 1). Click "Start," then "Run" within XP Home.

    • 2). Type "regedit" and press "Enter" within the XP Home run window.

    • 3). Navigate to the following registry key in the left pane:

      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\

    • 4). Right-click "NoDriveTypeAutorun" in the right pane and select "Modify."

    • 5). Type "0x4" and press "Enter." Close the Registry Editor. AutoPlay should now be disabled.
