How to Turn on Hibernate on a Vista Laptop
- 1). Turn on the Windows Vista laptop and log in as the computer's administrator.
- 2). Click the "Start" icon in the lower left corner of the Windows Vista laptop.
- 3). Type "Command" (without the quotes) in the Start Search field in the Start menu. Select Command Prompt beneath Programs in the results that appear in the Start menu directly above the Start Search field. The Administrator: Command Prompt program window appears on the screen.
- 4). Type the following to the right of the command prompt: powercfg/ hibernate on
- 5). Press "Enter." Hibernate mode will now be enabled on the computer.
- 1). Click the "Start" icon.
- 2). Click the right-pointing arrow to the right of the lock icon beneath Help and Support. A context menu appears to the right of the arrow.
- 3). Click Hibernate in the context menu. The computer will remain on briefly, generally less than a minute, before it completely shuts down.
- 4). Press the power button to wake the computer from Hibernate mode. The computer will turn back on, displaying the same programs and screens that were open when you put the computer in Hibernate mode.
