How to Customize the Trash Can Icon in Windows Vista

    • 1). Navigate to the "Start" menu at the bottom-left of your screen. Click it, and select "Control Panel."

    • 2). Click "Appearance and Personalization" to open up a list of subheadings, and then click "Personalization."

    • 3). From the "Tasks" options, click "Change Desktop Icons."

    • 4). Click on either the full recycle bin or the empty one, depending on which one you currently have. With your current version highlighted, click "Change Icon."

    • 5). Scroll through the window that opens, showing all of the icons Windows Vista allows. Find the icon you want to use, and select it. Click "OK" at the bottom of the window. Click "Apply" and close all the windows. Your icon should now be changed.
