How to Troubleshoot a Windows Mobile Device Center

    If Your Device Is Not Connecting

    • 1). Plug your device into the computer. Click "Start" from the bottom menu, and select "Start Search." Type "Device Manager" into the text field and click "Search."

    • 2). Search for "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" beneath "Network Adapters." Right-click "Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" and click "Uninstall."

    • 3). Unplug your device, wait a moment and plug the device in again. Windows Mobile Device Center will reinstall the remote adapter to enable you to connect your device.

    If Your Device Keeps Disconnecting While Syncing Big Files

    • 1). Tap "Settings," choose "Connections" and search for "USB to PC" in the list on your Windows Mobile device.

    • 2). Click "USB to PC," click the check-box beside "Enable advanced network functionality" and click "OK."

    • 3). Press and hold down the power button on your device and tap the "Reset" button. Restart the device after it has successfully shut down.

    • 4). Plug the device back into your computer, and start Windows Mobile Device Center.

    If Your Device Will Not Connect with Bluetooth

    • 1). Click "Start" in the bottom menu, choose "Control Panel," click "Hardware and Sound" and choose "Bluetooth Devices."

    • 2). Click the "Options" tab at the top of the window and click the check-box beside "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer." Click "OK" and close the window.

    • 3). Open Windows Mobile Device Center from your program files. Click the "Mobile Device Settings" button and choose "Connection Settings."

    • 4). Click the check-box beside "Bluetooth" to allow your device to connect to Windows Mobile with Bluetooth.

    • 5). Launch ActiveSync from your application menu on your Windows Mobile Device. Click "Menu" and select "Connect via Bluetooth." Click "Yes" to establish a link.

    • 6). Choose your personal computer from the list and click "Next." Type a password and click "Next." Refer to your desktop computer and follow the instructions the Bluetooth device wizard gives. Type your password into the device wizard dialog window when it prompts you. Finish the Bluetooth installation by clicking "Done."

    • 7). Activate ActiveSync on your Windows Mobile device. Click "Menu" and choose "Connect via Bluetooth." Your device will now connect with Windows Mobile Device Center using Bluetooth.

    If the Portable Device Driver Will Not Load

    • 1). Plug your device into the computer. Right-click "My Computer" and select "Properties."

    • 2). Locate the portable-device icon. Right-click the icon and click "Uninstall driver."

    • 3). Disconnect your device and plug it in again. Windows Mobile Device Center will automatically reinstall the Portable Device Driver.
