How to Remove Toshiba HDD Protection For a Vista to Windows 7 Upgrade

104 33
    • 1). In Vista, navigate to System Properties. You can do so by right clicking Computer and choosing properties, or through Control Panel by choosing System.

    • 2). Once in System Properties, choose Device Manager. You'll have to be a local administrator to obtain access.

    • 3). In Device Manager, expand the System Devices menu, and locate "Toshiba HDD Protection". Select it, and choose to uninstall it.

    • 4). Once successfully uninstalled, open explorer, navigate to Windows\System32\drivers and delete "thpdrv.sys".

    • 5). That's it! Restart your PC for good measure. Depending on your configurations, Windows may alert you that you have a new device (it's just rediscovering the driver you just uninstalled). Ignore this message, and continue on to upgrade to Windows 7!
