How to Run Windows XP on a PC
- 1). Turn on your computer and insert your Windows XP disc. Allow the installation procedure to start automatically. If no such event takes place, launch your BIOS settings and set the boot priority options to begin with your CD-ROM, followed by your hard disk. Save all changes and exit the BIOS. Note that BIOS access varies by system manufacturer, though the access key is displayed immediately after your computer is turned on.
- 2). Press "F8" on your keyboard to accept Microsoft's end-user license agreement. Select the drive where Windows XP will be installed and press "Enter."
- 3). Choose the NTFS file system on the next screen and wait for the setup to copy all system files to the hard drive in question. When finished, your computer will restart automatically. When asked, "Press any key to boot from CD," ignore the message and the setup wizard will resume. Otherwise, setup will start from the beginning once again.
- 4). Select your regional settings, your language, and input the name of your organization, if any. Enter the Windows product key found on your user's manual, followed by the creation of an administrator password.
- 5). Enter the date, time and your local time zone from the list of options. Next, select your network settings and choose the default "Workgroup" option if you are not part of a domain or office network.
- 6). Select "Help protect my PC by turning on Automatic Updates now." Next, choose to connect to the Internet through a Local Area Network if you own a router. Otherwise, select to connect to the Internet directly if you do not possess such equipment or use a dial-up connection.
- 7). Activate your copy of Windows XP through the Internet, by modem or by telephone. If you wish to activate the software later, go to "Start," then "Programs," followed by "Accessories." Select "System Tools" and click "Activate Windows."
- 8). Create your default user profile, along with any additional accounts to be used. Once all user profiles have been created, click "Next," followed by "Finished" to run and use Windows XP.
